I AM A VOICE

John was being asked his identity by Jewish leaders who sent priests and temple assistants from Jerusalem. John didn’t provide them his credentials, his title, or history of himself (being related to Jesus), but he identified himself as “a voice shouting in the wilderness”. His identity is found in Christ, His identity or purpose I should say, was to clear the way for the LORD’s coming.

Let’s read John 1:19 - 28,

19 Now this was John’s testimony when the Jewish leaders[a] in Jerusalem sent priests and Levites to ask him who he was. 20 He did not fail to confess, but confessed freely, “I am not the Messiah.” 21 They asked him, “Then who are you? Are you Elijah?” He said, “I am not.” “Are you the Prophet?” He answered, “No.” 22 Finally they said, “Who are you? Give us an answer to take back to those who sent us. What do you say about yourself?” 23 John replied in the words of Isaiah the prophet, “I am the voice of one calling in the wilderness, ‘Make straight the way for the Lord.’”[b] 24 Now the Pharisees who had been sent 25 questioned him, “Why then do you baptize if you are not the Messiah, nor Elijah, nor the Prophet?” 26 “I baptize with[c] water,” John replied, “but among you stands one you do not know. 27 He is the one who comes after me, the straps of whose sandals I am not worthy to untie.”28 This all happened at Bethany on the other side of the Jordan, where John was baptizing.“I am a voice shouting in the wilderness, clear the way for the LORD’s coming.” John 1:19 - 28

How many of us are displaying that same identity? Are we so caught up on ourselves in establishing our own name, that we are forgetting to lead people to Christ? We as Christians must prepare people for Christ second coming, just as John was preparing people for Christ first coming.

John was fulfilling a prophecy in Isaiah 40:3

Listen! It’s the voice of someone shouting, “Clear the way through the wilderness for the Lord! Make a straight highway through the wasteland for our God!

Although John was related to Jesus, he was fulfilling of old testament prophecy, and he had many disciples following him; he did not make it about himself. He made it about Christ.

“True ministry points others to Jesus not ourselves.”

As Christian how are we preparing others for the second coming of Christ?

18 Jesus came and told his disciples, “I have been given all authority in heaven and on earth. 19 Therefore, go and make disciples of all the nations,[a] baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit. 20 Teach these new disciples to obey all the commands I have given you. And be sure of this: I am with you always, even to the end of the age.” Matthew 28:18-20

Jesus reminded us that He is with us and to make disciples of all the nations… which means to spread the gospel of Jesus Christ. Anytime your sharing the gospel or doing something intentionally for Christ the enemy will try his best to stop you, which is why Jesus also reminded us that He has been given all authority in heaven and on earth. Therefore, we have to remove any obstacles that hinders us from preparing others, removing distractions that so easily try to prevent us from doing what God has truly called us to do. To stay focused, we must stay in the word of God, pray, fast, etc. The Bible tell us that the enemy comes to steal, kill, and destroy. But Christ came that we may have life, and have it have it more abundantly. We should want others to experience the abundant life God has for them. Think of it this way… if you had the cure for cancer would you keep it to yourself or would you tell others about it? We have the answer to how to receive eternal life, so why not share the Good news of our savior Jesus Christ?

Again: “True ministry points others to Jesus not ourselves.”

It’s okay to have a business, be an entrepreneur, have Godly ideas, etc. but how are we using the very things and/or ideas God blesses us with to advance His kingdom? Even though John was questioned about who he was, He did not exalt himself, but he exalted Christ.  The vision, the business, the book, or whatever God entrustes you with is bigger than you. Remember people are depending of your obedience. John was literally in the dessert when he was preaching this very message. During some seasons, we may feel like we are in a desert and may not see fruit of our obedience right way but keep trusting God and stay focused on the real reason, which is leading people to Christ. When you seek God and put Him first everything else will be added. When we speak it should represent the love of Christ and our voice should lead people to Christ. Whatever you’re doing in life right now whether its on a personal or professional level, ask yourself this question…

Are you a voice for Christ or are you a voice to only promote yourself?

Boldly to the Throne

Have you ever felt pressed by life and don’t know what to do? When I feel overwhelmed or pressed by a situation the Holy Psiirt leads me to this verse

15 This High Priest of ours understands our weaknesses, for he faced all of the same testings we do, yet he did not sin. 16 So let us come boldly to the throne of our gracious God. There we will receive his mercy, and we will find grace to help us when we need it most. Hebrews 4:15-16 (NLT)

As I was reading Hebrews 4:15-16, the Lord pointed out the word boldly. Boldly in greek means “Parrhesia” — Freedom of speech or to speak without ambiguity. Plainly when we go to God He desires us to be bold with Him, not holding back but to lay everything at His feet (Matthew 11:28-30).

In the New Testament, speaking boldly was restricted and it came with punishment if you violated the rules. Coming boldly to God means coming without fear and being honest with Him about your situation. I have notice lately that many people are afraid to come to the alter and may view it as a judgement zone that they are living in sin. When we should view it as a sacrifice to God__ when we come to God we should be laying down everything and sacrificing everything just to be in His presence. The alter should be a place of healing, restoration, deliverance, worship, etc. not judgment from others. Also, we can’t be afraid that God may rebuke us when we come to Him because when we speak feely from out hearts and come boldly we obtain mercy, and find Grace to help us in the time of need (Heb. 4:16).

When we speak freely with our hearts it allows God to correct any wrong doing we may have, which guide us to what the Word of God (Bible) says about the situation. When God corrects us, it is not to condemn us but it is to prune us into the person He desires us to be. When we come to God, He gives us everything we need.

So, How can we obtain what God has for us?

If is never too difficult for God to give, but it may be more difficult for you to receive.

If you need wisdom, ask our generous God, and he will give it to you. He will not rebuke you for asking. But when you ask him, be sure that your faith is in God alone. Do not waver, for a person with divided loyalty is as unsettled as a wave of the sea that is blown and tossed by the wind. Such people should not expect to receive anything from the Lord. James 1:5-7 (NLT)

God wants to bless you abundantly, more than you could ever ask or think; but are you in position to receive? Are you focused on Christ or are you allowing distractions to clutter you with worries, fear, shame, doubt, etc. You can not expect to receive anything from God with your loyalty is divided between the world and Christ. When we go to God, your faith must be in Him alone and not of things of this world. Go Boldly to God and watch Him restore you.

Let’s look at the word obtain. Obtain in greek means Lambano — to seize or to lay hold of something in order to make it your very own. The level you’re able to recieve from God is determined by you ability to lay hold of the very thing He is trying to give you.

For example: You desire God to help you with your negative thinking but you do not take actions steps to prevent negative thoughts—you allow negative thoughts to run ramped without casting them down (2 Corinthians 10:5). When we have the Holy Spirit we have all power to cast down anything that goes against the knowledge of God. When you receive by faith, Jesus is always willing to give you what you need. Along with mercy , we also are able to find Grace to help in time of need. Any time you find something you have been searching for, come with great joy (Mathew 7:8). I come to encourage you to keep seeking God, and keep asking. Allow Jesus to go to battle for you for any and every situation — You will find deliverance and freedom when you present your needs to Him by faith and go BOLDY TO THE THRONE.

Love you Woman of Worth Ladies!

Godly Motherhood

What is a Godly mother? Growing up I did not understand some of the lessons my mother was trying to teach me. She would always talk about God, which set a standard of godly morals and values at a young age. Countless times I seen her pray, cry, and praise the lord for me and others. I did not understand why she even prayed for people who did her wrong, but it allowed me to see the love of God and what it means to be a Christian. My mother was not perfect, but I can say she demonstrated a Godly mother and displayed the love of Christ. I have been a mother for 4 years; therefore, I am still learning and growing. So please take this blog with encouragement and a word from the Lord of the importance of being a Godly mother.

Today my best friend (Kiera) and I are coming with encouragement, grace, and humility. We do not have it all figured out but as a community we can encourage each other to display the love of Christ from a mother’s prospective.

Being a mother can be tough and, in some cases, you have to be a mother and a father. Taking on two roles can be difficult but with a foundation in Christ, His strength will get you through any obstacle in Life.

Here is our take on Godly motherhood:

Kiera - I think it is important to establish a foundation from the beginning. Your influence is powerful on your children in so many aspects.

“6 Train up a child in the way he should go, [a]And when he is old he will not depart from it.”  Proverbs 22:6 (NKJV)

1.     Proverbs 22:6 – Leading them: Directing children God’s way

As a mother of (3) three, it becomes difficult sometimes and I may not get it right all of the time, but I believe it is important to teach them the ways of the lord by being an example of Christ. A lot of times we as parents may be the only Godly example they see on a daily basis; therefore, if we do not train them, then the world will do it for us.

2.     Caring and nurturing our child(ren)

I have an 8, 4, and 2-year-old, which requires me to be sensitive to each of their individual needs and personalities. I believe God have embedded characteristics of caring and nurturing in all women but there is a level of compassion and encouragement we have to have to develop confidence and self-worth in our children at a young age. When they fall or mess up, it is our job to lovingly correct them and push them closer to God. When they get older and fall, which they will, then they will reflect back to our example of the love we displayed and connect it to Gods ultimate example of true love.

3.     Praying for them

Out of three points, this is the most important job we have. We have to pray over our children continuously.

3 Children are a heritage from the Lord, offspring a reward from him. Psalm 127:3 (NIV)

I believe our Children belong to God; therefore, God entrusted them to us. Being a mother is nothing we should take lightly. We should be honored to raise our children, to be conformed to the image of God.  We are here to prepare our children for their destiny, calling, and purpose. Praying for them activates the call on their life. We are not only praising God for our children but praying for them to be the person God has called them to be.

Jessica – I believe being a Godly mother means loving your Children even when they do something wrong or when their choices are disappointing.

1.     Displaying the love of Christ (Parents loving beyond measures)

The Mother’s love is not conditional based off behaviors but it a genuine love, that despite what was done a mother’s love for their children will never fade.

“4 Love is patient and kind. Love is not jealous or boastful or proud 5 or rude. It does not demand its own way. It is not irritable, and it keeps no record of being wronged. 6 It does not rejoice about injustice but rejoices whenever the truth wins out. 7 Love never gives up, never loses faith, is always hopeful, and endures through every circumstance.” 1 Corinthians 13: 4-7

When we love our children, we have to understand they will mess up but with our guidance they can learn from their mistakes and we can teach them the ways of the Lord.

For an example, when I was a lesbian (read about my story) my mother still loved me even though she did not agree with that lifestyle. She never belittled me, kicked me out the house, told me I was going to hell, etc. But she loved me and displayed the love of Christ. It was that same love that pushed me closer to Christ. I could not understand how she loved me despite the lifestyle I was in. I said to myself, “if my mother loves me despite my ways, then surely Gods love for me is unconditional.” She told me what the word (Bible) said about homosexuality, instead of bashing me or judging me. She continued to love me and prayed for me. Don’t get me wrong, she did not stand for some things and she told me her thoughts on those matters, but I respected my mother because I saw her love for Christ and I honestly felt like she cared for me as her daughter. Jesus loves the brokenhearted; therefore, we never know what our children may be going through or maybe have to face at school. The enemy is out to steal, kill, and destroy (John 10:10); therefore, with that in mind, we must love our children back to Christ and love beyond measures.

 2.     Having their best interest

…“But as for me and my household, we will serve the Lord.” Joshua 24:15

Our best interest is to set a standard for our children, that within your house they will serve the Lord, which means if they are residing in your home their ways should reflect Christ. When we as parents set the standard of a Christian household, many children will display that standard within their community, school, etc. What you allow in your home, gives them a green light to display the same behaviors when they aren’t at home. Giving them the standards to serve the lord at home develops a Godly mindset of those same moral and values outside of the home. What example are we showing behind close doors?

3.     Praying over them

I personally would not be where I am now if it wasn’t for my mother’s prayers. The effectual fervent prayer of a righteous man availeth much (James 5:16). We as parents should always pray over our children for God to place a hedge of protection around them. The enemy can use our children too, he has not respective of persons, he does not care who he tries to kill, steal or destroy. The devil will try to stop our children at a young age to prevent them for following Christ, which is way we should pray over our children daily.

Read 1 Samuel 1:1–28

Kiera and I both connected with this woman named Hannah in the bible in related to Godly Motherhood. Hannah was one of two wives of a man named Elkanah. The other wife of Elkanah, Peninnah, had children, but Hannah had no child. Hannah desperately desired a child but could not conceive. This story for me displayed a deeper level of faith in God for a desire to be a mother.  In the bible days women were looked down upon when they could not have children. They were considered an outcasted. It is a blessing to be a mother or a motherly figure if you’re not a biological mother. So, Peninnah the second wife of Elkanan taunted Hannah concerning her not being able to have children. Although Elkanah loved Hannah, Hannah just was not satisfied. As a mother, a child is one of our greatest blessings from God. Hannah prayed for God to give her a son, she would dedicate him to God as a Nazirite (a man set apart to serve God. The story ended well for Hannah. God did indeed provide Hannah a son name Samuel. When Samuel was old enough, she kept her promise to the Lord, giving him to the Lord to serve in the tabernacle.

Kiera: What was intriguing to me about Hannah is that she was a woman of faith. She was devoted to the Lord. In the midst of her barrenness and even being taunted because of it she was persistent in seeking His face and trusting Him! She didn't let her condition keep her from being obedient to what God commanded of her or pouring her heart out to Him. To me that models how important it is to be a mother that seeks the face of God no matter what your unique condition may be and how your obedience affects not only you but your seed as well. God blessed Hannah's obedience

Jessica: God is so faithful!! Hannah prayed by faith for her desires to be a mother would be quenched. As mother’s we need to petition our prayers to the lord the way Hannah did for our child(ren) and over our child(ren). Hannah gave her son back to the Lord, and we should do the same. I remember giving my daughter back to the Lord while she was still in my womb. My daughter was a unplanned pregnancy but even though she was not planned by me, she was planned by God for a purpose. Children ultimately belong to Christ for a much greater purpose; therefore, let’s not take being a mother for granted. “I knew you before I formed you in your mother’s womb. Before you were born I set you apart and appointed you as my prophet to the nations.” (Jeremiah1:5). Every single child born has a purpose from the Lord, which is why it is essential to ask God how to prepare our child(ren) for the work He has for them. It is also vital to ask God how to lead and guide them to become the person He desires them to be. Let’s strive to be Godly mother’s with the strength of Christ to carry each blessing (child) birth from our womb because each blessing (child) is well worth it!

I hope this blog encourages you to be a Godly mother. If you’re not a mother, I pray you be an example of a godly parent, and/or a godly influence to lead children to Christ and not away from Christ. As adults we are the first example Children see and if we don’t set a Godly standard, they will reflect standards of the world. Keep praying and loving on your child(ren) and watch God continue to bless your offspring for generations to come.

Spiritually Stuck

Many of us have felt stuck spiritually, where you feel like you’re not growing in God, you feel left behind, forgotten, etc. Spiritually stuck is just a battle the devil is trying to win. As long as the devil can keep you stagnant in the same area, going around the same mountain year after year, then he has completed his task. The enemy knows what you are capable of when you continue to trust God and grow into the person He desire you to be. You may say well Jessica, “I spend time with God, fast, go to church, etc. but I still feel stuck and my situation is not changing”. The question you should ask yourself is, “am I really stuck, or do I just need to GET UP”!

Let’s read John 5, it explains another man feeling stuck in the same place year after year and Jesus comes along with an answer.

Jesus Heals a Lame Man: John 5:1-15

Afterward Jesus returned to Jerusalem for one of the Jewish holy days. Inside the city, near the Sheep Gate, was the pool of Bethesda,[a] with five covered porches. Crowds of sick people—blind, lame, or paralyzed—lay on the porches.[bOne of the men lying there had been sick for thirty-eight years. When Jesus saw him and knew he had been ill for a long time, he asked him, “Would you like to get well?” “I can’t, sir,” the sick man said, “for I have no one to put me into the pool when the water bubbles up. Someone else always gets there ahead of me.” Jesus told him, “Stand up, pick up your mat, and walk!” Instantly, the man was healed! He rolled up his sleeping mat and began walking! But this miracle happened on the Sabbath, 10 so the Jewish leaders objected. They said to the man who was cured, “You can’t work on the Sabbath! The law doesn’t allow you to carry that sleeping mat!” 11 But he replied, “The man who healed me told me, ‘Pick up your mat and walk.’” 12 “Who said such a thing as that?” they demanded. 13 The man didn’t know, for Jesus had disappeared into the crowd. 14 But afterward Jesus found him in the Temple and told him, “Now you are well; so stop sinning, or something even worse may happen to you.” 15 Then the man went and told the Jewish leaders that it was Jesus who had healed him.

John 5 talks about a lame man who was sick for 38 years. The Bible does not reference what illness the man had but it did mention that Jesus knew the man had been ill for a long time. I do not think it mattered what type of illness the man was experiencing, just like it does not matter what we are going through or facing in life; everyone is facing something. Jesus provided the man with another option to receive his healing. How many times in the stuck season you tried to do things your way instead of giving it to God and seeking His face? This man was stuck in the same area, same spot for 38 years. That was 38 years of making the same excuses and comparing himself to others. The lame man had to take action and GET UP from that stuck place for him to receive his healing. That stuck place for you can be depression, frustration, feeling forgotten, inadequate, discontent, etc. What are you trying to receive from God?

Jesus Asked the man in John 5:6, “Would you like to get well?”

Would you like to get unstuck? God is asking you right now, if you want him to move in your life. Get unstuck from the same mindset, same struggle, same situation.

John 5:8, “ stand up, pick up your mat, and walk”

John 5:8 means, to get up by faith that the unstuck season is turning around. Start obeying God in whatever He is telling you to do. Know matter if you can’t see the results from your obedience right away, you stay faithful to God. Raise up in your calling, raise up when you feel broken, forgotten, lonely, and allow God to heal you in those areas.

Actions on your part is needed for God to work in your life but that’s not saying God need you in order to move. Faith follows actions because faith without works is dead (James 2:14-26).

IF the lame man did not get up and take actions he would’ve still been in the same place, same area, same bondage, same sickness, etc. Your IFs are dependent upon your actions. IF’s in the Bible speaks directly to our responsibility when it comes to receiving from God. It starts at the very beginning of our relationship with God.

Romans 10:9 (NLT) 9 If you openly declare that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved.

The promise is salvation; the if or condition—is you first confess and believe.

Deuteronomy 28:13 (NLT)

13 IF you listen to these commands of the Lord your God that I am giving you today, and IF you carefully obey them, the Lord will make you the head and not the tail, and you will always be on top and never at the bottom.

The IF’s are being willing to change your ways, to trust God even when you're praying, obeying God, and you haven’t seen any results yet. You’re still willing to get up and lay hands on the sick, do the work of the Lord, stay consistent, stay faithful, etc. God knows your condition and He is not ignoring your condition but are your willing to GET UP and continue to walk with God?

Isaiah 1:19 (NKJV)

19” If you are willing and obedient,You shall eat the good of the land…”

We can be willing and obedient or we can rebel and not obey God.

If you are feeling spiritually stuck, make a decision today and go wherever God is leading you. Start by asking for guidance and obey his instructions by faith. What is He telling you to do right now? What are the IF’s in your life? GET UP, Take up your mat and walk! Use that very mat you were laying on as a reminder of where God brought you from. You overcome by blood of the lamb and the words of your testimony (Revelation 12:11).

Don’t give up because if it’s in the word, it belongs to you; therefore, get in position to break free and break through. Get moving!

 Say this prayer with me,

“Lord, I thank you for your love and reminders that you love me in and out of every season. Lord, I feel spiritually stuck and I need a touch from you. I desire to go deeper in you and to make a change in my life.  Forgive me for my sins and help me defeat the strategies of the enemy. Lord, help me take actions by faith even when I do not feel motivated. Give me strength to walk by faith with boldness and power from the holy spirit. I pray I will stay focused on you and not compare my life to others. Lord, I know you have a plan and a purpose for me. Lord, I trust you and as I take up my personal mat and walk; I pray for your guidance. Today I make the decision to get up and walk in my destiny, calling, and your will for my life. Your timing is perfect lord, which is why I trust you with the plans you have for me. As I do my part and take actions with obedience, I trust your promises will come to pass for me. In Jesus name, Amen.”

Why worry? Trust God

I hope you enjoy reading this blog and a few pictures from my trip in Israel.

Let’s first off with the definition of worry.

Worry– to torment oneself with or suffer from disturbing thoughts; fret.

Wow, worry means to torment oneself with??? This is the reason why God does not want us to worry because he want us to walk in the fullness and abundance of life, with joy and peace. If we are always in turmoil then how can we have peace and fully trust God with the promises and plans for our life? Let read Matthew 6:25-34

Matthew 6:25-34(NLT)

25 “That is why I tell you not to worry about everyday life—whether you have enough food and drink, or enough clothes to wear. Isn’t life more than food, and your body more than clothing? 26 Look at the birds. They don’t plant or harvest or store food in barns, for your heavenly Father feeds them. And aren’t you far more valuable to him than they are? 27 Can all your worries add a single moment to your life? 28 “And why worry about your clothing? Look at the lilies of the field and how they grow. They don’t work or make their clothing, 29 yet Solomon in all his glory was not dressed as beautifully as they are. 30 And if God cares so wonderfully for wildflowers that are here today and thrown into the fire tomorrow, he will certainly care for you. Why do you have so little faith?31 “So don’t worry about these things, saying, ‘What will we eat? What will we drink? What will we wear?’ 32 These things dominate the thoughts of unbelievers, but your heavenly Father already knows all your needs. 33 Seek the Kingdom of God[a] above all else, and live righteously, and he will give you everything you need. 34 “So don’t worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will bring its own worries. Today’s trouble is enough for today.

The Sea of Galilee

The Sea of Galilee

Worrying never adds to your life, it only takes away from it. You can spend hours worrying about something and the situation won’t change. Worrying only defines our lack of trust in God. But don’t beat yourself down too much because we all have worried at some point in our lifetime. Matthew 6:30 says, “And if God cares so wonderfully for wildflowers that are here today and thrown into the fire tomorrow, he will certainly care for you.” God knows what you need even before you ask Him; He is well aware. Worry often comes when we forget the works and power of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. We forget the times He made a way, the times he came through before our light got cut off, the times we lost our job but still never lacked food, clothing, or shelter, and the list can go on. So we have to remind ourselves of the times God did provide and the promises he made in the word of God for His Children. The bibles says worrying dominate the thoughts of people who don’t believe but when we seek God first and live righteously then everything shall be added unto us. Matthew 6:33-34, Seek the Kingdom of God above all else, and live righteously, and he will give you everything you need. 34 “So don’t worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will bring its own worries. Today’s trouble is enough for today.

Below are some worries scriptures to mediate on when the feelings of worry try to creep up on you. Write them down longhand on index cards and pull them out when you need them.

Matthew 11:28-30 (NLT)

28 Then Jesus said, “Come to me, all of you who are weary and carry heavy burdens, and I will give you rest. 29 Take my yoke upon you. Let me teach you, because I am humble and gentle at heart, and you will find rest for your souls.30 For my yoke is easy to bear, and the burden I give you is light.”

John 14:27 (NLT)

27 “I am leaving you with a gift—peace of mind and heart. And the peace I give is a gift the world cannot give. So don’t be troubled or afraid.

Psalm 55:22 (NLT)

22 Give your burdens to the Lord, and he will take care of you.He will not permit the godly to slip and fall.

1 Peter 5:6-8 (NLT)

“6 So humble yourselves under the mighty power of God, and at the right time he will lift you up in honor. 7 Give all your worries and cares to God, for he cares about you.”8 Stay alert! Watch out for your great enemy, the devil. He prowls around like a roaring lion, looking for someone to devour.

Camel Ride in Israel

Camel Ride in Israel

Worrying may often lead to making irrational decisions because we feel like God is being slow with answering our prayers. We jump into relationships prematurely, we take jobs because of financial worries, we go to friends for advice before God, we spend hours searching for solutions on google before consulting God, and the list goes on. If you’re not careful worry can develop into doubt, doubting God and allowing the enemy to take captive of you mind with negative thoughts. When worry comes, activate your faith and start to speak the word of God. The Bible says, “without faith it is impossible to please God” - Hebrews 11:6. We aren’t pleasing God when we worry; therefore, we have to trust God will give us peace that trespasses all understanding. That means when we don’t understand things God will give us peace and a reminder that His plans for our lives are good, and perfect. Instead of worrying, running around trying to figure things out; just sit before God and dwell in his presence. God will provide us with instructions on what to do and will give you peace that everything is in his hands.
