Eliminating Distractions

**I wrote a blog about distractions before and I believe the Lord is calling me to blog about it again but in a different perspective. Please read my previous blog I wrote a few months ago called (Distractions).

In this video I talk about eliminating distractions... Distractions come in all shapes and forms for many people, but a distraction has the same purpose and that is for you to lose focus while keeping you stagnant. What is distracting you from giving God your undivided attention?

We can get so caught up in our daily lives that we fail to give God his time and we find ourselves distracted. Like I mentioned before, distractions comes in many forms but I will identify 3 distractions that many may continue to fall into daily.

1.    Worrying

2.    Discontentment

3.    Sin

  1. Worrying

Worrying can bring distractions by not trusting God in your everyday life. You may have spent hours worrying how you’re going to work this or that out and neglect how God will work everything out for your good, if you just trust Him and cast all of your burdens on Him. (Psalms 55:22)

Below is a perfect story in the bible that addresses distractions.

Jesus Visits Martha and Mary

Luke 10:38-42 (NLT)

38 As Jesus and the disciples continued on their way to Jerusalem, they came to a certain village where a woman named Martha welcomed him into her home. 39 Her sister, Mary, sat at the Lord’s feet, listening to what he taught. 40 But Martha was distracted by the big dinner she was preparing. She came to Jesus and said, “Lord, doesn’t it seem unfair to you that my sister just sits here while I do all the work? Tell her to come and help me.” 41 But the Lord said to her, “My dear Martha, you are worried and upset over all these details! 42 There is only one thing worth being concerned about. Mary has discovered it, and it will not be taken away from her.”

Martha invited Jesus in however, she quickly got distracted by the big dinner. Then Martha got upset because Mary was not pitching in on the work and appeared to be doing nothing. The thing is Martha “invited Jesus in”… so you can accept Christ and call yourself a christian but what does your relationship with God looks like? Are you truly trusting God despite trials and tribulations? If you struggle with spending time with God, ask God to help you in that area. Start with at least 5-10 minute prayer, or read the bible app. The Bible app has daily devotionals that you could read and it only takes about 5 minutes to read. Let’s be intentional about your relationship with God ladies. BIBLE APP . Mary did not allow the big dinner to distracted her, she sat at Jesus feet, listening to what He taught. Are you listening to God for instructions and guidance or are you allowing worry to overtake you? Remember there is nothing worth being concerned about than your relationship with God. It may feel unfair that things aren’t working out in your life right now but instead of worrying why not sit before God and ask him for instructions on what to do. The bible say’s in Proverbs 3:5-6 (NLT), Trust in the Lord with all your heart; do not depend on your own understanding. Seek his will in all you do, and he will show you which path to take.”

The Bible urges us to not worry about anything because God will always provide for us. So how do we not get distracted by worrying? The answer is seeking God FIRST!

Matthew 6:33 “Seek the Kingdom of God[a] above all else, and live righteously, and he will give you everything you need.”

When we seek God first above everything else including our worries we will find ourselves trusting God more, staying in the word of God, and truly believing God will never fail us.

2. Discontentment

Defintion: Discontentment means the condition of being dissatisfied with one’s life or situation.

Discontentment can cause distractions by trying to fill your life with material things to satisfy you, comparing your life to others, wishing you had this or that. When you don’t trust God in the season you’re in, you become distracted with discontentment in your heart. When you are distracted by what you do not have…It may very well lead to depression if you’re not careful. Paul speaks about this in Philippians 4 and it shows him understanding the importance of being content in Christ and trusting God with his whole life.

Philippians 4: 11-13 (NLT), “11 Not that I was ever in need, for I have learned how to be content with whatever I have. 12 I know how to live on almost nothing or with everything. I have learned the secret of living in every situation, whether it is with a full stomach or empty, with plenty or little. 13 For I can do everything through Christ,[d] who gives me strength.”

“You can do all thing through Christ who Strengths you.” Philippians 4:13

When life comes your way, it may be hard to stay focus but it’s not by your power, it is by the power of the holy spirit working in you to overcome anything that life may throw your way. If the devil cannot kill or destroy your walk with God, he will certainly do his best to distracted you. Distracting you from walking into your destiny, keep you staying in that ungodly relationship, comparing your life to others, worrying about your life, and/or keep you struggling with the same sin all in the form of distractions. Distractions keep you from focusing on God and developing a deeper relationship with Him.

3. Sin

Sin is a huge distraction. Yes, we all fall short of the glory of God but when we deliberately sin it starts to separate us from God, which becomes a huge distraction. Sin distracts you because it makes you focus on worldly pleasures. You start to develop the mentality to please your flesh rather than obey God. You start to compromise because you think God is taking too long for whatever He has promised you.

Isaiah 59:2 “It’s your sins that have cut you off from God because of your sins, he has turned away and will not listen anymore.”

Yes, God loves everybody, and nothing shall separate you from the love of God (Romans 8:35-39), but you can’t have a relationship with God while continuing to partake in sin. God doesn’t hate you, He hates the sin because it brings death and separation. God loves you so much that he gave his only Son to die for you. He does not want you to perish but want you to have everlasting life in eternity with Him.

So obviously sin can be a huge distraction and if you continue to fall into sin, you will find yourself further away from developing a deeper relationship with God. The enemy will try to distract you to lead you off course, or even to the point where you don’t share the gospel with others. So, ladies it’s important to do what Mary did, and that is to sit at the feet of Jesus when you’re in your emotions, when things don’t work out, when you feel forgotten, worried, overwhelmed, etc. Distractions will not over take you if you stay focused on God and not the things of this world. Although you should be aware of what is going on around you, you should not get distracted to the point of losing sight of God; causing you to not trust God, fall into sin, worry, etc.

Take some time to examine your life and ask God to purge you from any distractions in your life. Ask God to reveal anything that may be distracting you that your unaware of. I pray you eliminate all distractions in your life and stay focus on Christ.

Love you ladies and remember you are a Woman of Worth!!
